Orthosis

Orthotic devices are specially designed to support, align, and stabilize the joints and muscles of the skeletal system. They help in preventing, correcting, or accommodating physical deformities while improving overall body movement and function. Orthotic braces, also known as orthoses, are commonly used to strengthen weak joints or body parts. In some cases, they are worn temporarily during recovery from injuries or surgery, while in other situations, they provide long-term support for chronic or ongoing medical conditions.

Orthotics generally fall into three major categories: soft, rigid, and semi-rigid. Soft orthotics are mainly designed to provide cushioning and reduce pressure on the feet during movement or standing. Semi-rigid orthotics combine support with comfort and are often recommended for conditions such as flat feet. Rigid orthotics, on the other hand, are built to improve stability, posture, and body alignment.

Signs You May Need Orthotics

  • Persistent foot pain or swelling
  • Sharp pain around the heel area
  • Flat feet or unusually high arches
  • Difficulty maintaining balance or frequent falls
  • Uneven wear patterns on your shoes
  • Previous lower limb injuries affecting movement
  • Foot complications related to diabetes

Orthotic support can play a significant role in improving comfort, enhancing mobility, and reducing strain on the body during everyday activities.
